Commissioner Arnold Weiss is the head of the Serious Freud Office and hence the immediate superior of Inspector Moncrieff.
Intensely ambitious and political, he is deeply suspicious of Moncrieff's cavalier approach to policing, naturally favouring the pragmatism of Inspector Jack Markitt.
However he has turned a blind eye to Moncrieff's unorthodox methods so long as they have brought success (and hence kudos for Weiss).
